Curriculum: Core subjects, such as reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, health, art, music, and physical education are offered. Woodcrest operates on a year-round school calendar. This year-round calendar includes nine weeks of classes followed by a three-week intersession during which time students may be identified to participate in intervention and enrichment classes.
Academic Support

Reading Program: Daily 5 Literacy Café. Students work on specific literacy goals and meet with the classroom teacher for daily small group reading on their reading level.

Goal Setting: During each grading period, each child will establish an academic goal to achieve. These goals will be sent home to parents at the beginning of each grading period. Students conference with the classroom teacher and principal to establish strategies to achieve their goal.

Language Arts and Math Handbooks: We have created handbooks to be used at home to assist your child with their learning and their homework. There is a Language Arts Handbook that gives useful information for reading, writing and spelling. This handbook can be used from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. We have created two Math Handbooks. One handbook is for Kindergarten to Second Grade and the other is for Third to Fifth Graders. Please let us know if you have not received these resources.

BEAR Logs: All Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students have a BEAR (Be Excited About Reading) log. Please make sure that your child is reading each night. The books sent home are on your child’s reading level and it continues to build your child’s reading strategies and fluency. It is also a good idea to read a variety of books: non-fiction, poetry, biographies and other genres. For lists of other appropriately leveled books for your child, see the Language Arts Handbook.

Intersession: Students are able to attend our academic intersessions for extra full days of school. Class sizes are 15 students and the focus is on reading and math instruction.
